Patty Rempel

Mental Health Therapist, MEd., BSW, RSW

Hello. Thank you for taking an interest in Embody Therapy Group. I’m Patty, one of the founders of this amazing therapy group. I have a passion for helping people fully embody their values and beliefs in order to be present and feel they are being true to themselves every day, no matter what kind of day they are having.  I help my clients improve their relationship with food, mind, and body. I encourage all of my clients to see it is possible to improve their physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual health without waiting until they lose weight or look a certain way. My approach is rooted in Health At Every Size®, Intuitive Eating, and body positivity. I utilize the evidenced-based frameworks of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with an emphasis on mindfulness and self-compassion.

I have been working in the field of mental health for almost 30 years.  I am a mental therapist, health educator and body liberation advocate. I have a bachelor of social work, masters in health education and a post graduate diploma in eating disorders.

Eating disorders come in all shapes, sizes, and genders and take many forms for the sufferer. After recovering from my own battle with eating disorders and realizing the many areas of my life that were impacted it became my purpose to help other adults seek recovery and get their lives back. It is possible to fully recover and treat yourself well. Learning to challenge the inner critic and increasing self-compassion is key. Developing and maintaining positive relationships and finding meaningful activities that fit with your values and give you a sense of purpose are also key. Becoming educated about the dangers of the diet industry, thin ideal and beauty ideal are also key. Realizing we have been victimized by this multi-billion dollar industry is another key. When we can get a little angry about the danger of this messaging that blames and shames us about our weight, what we choose to eat, how we move our bodies and our appearance, then we start to feel liberated and know we all deserve so much better. Once you recognize the damage of diet mentality to the individual and our society, you can’t unknow it!

Let me help you explore how these key areas may be impacting you and how to find calm within yourself on your way to healing. Please feel free to call or email me for more information or to book an appointment.

Roxanna Wegenast

Provisional Psychologist

I practiced trauma informed therapy and believe that non-judgmental acceptance and validation is key in supporting a client on their healing journey. I believe that problems have causes that need to be examined and there are reasons we react the way we do. I have worked with grief and loss; with family members of those who have completed suicide or family members of those who are struggling with mental health issues; depression and anxiety; trauma related disorders including secondary trauma; individuals who have had a borderline diagnosis; and identity issues such as self-esteem, diversity challenges, and life transitions.

I have a special interest in working with first responders, having completed primary thesis research on resilience and police officers. I believe that feeling overwhelmed and depressed is not a sign of weakness. I believe the symptoms of trauma injuries are indications that our bodies and minds are attempting to heal.

I combine evidence-based modalities (CBT; EFT; narrative) with mindfulness practices, such as guided meditation, visualization and breath work. The end goal is to support the client in managing overwhelming and problematic automatic physiological and emotional reactions that are common post-trauma. I use both Gottman techniques and EFT when working with couples.
